New World Interactive, the team behind Insurgency: Sandstorm – a sequel to a commercial version of a popular Half-Life 2 modification – has decided to share a batch of new info on their upcoming game. Like its predecessor, this is going to be a hardcore online shooter set somewhere in the Middle East and focusing on close-quarters infantry combat. This time, however, the game will feature an interesting story mode designed for 4-player co-op and singleplayer gameplay.
Inspired by real events and people, the story will focus on a female protagonist, enslaved by radical insurgents together with her sister and other young girls in an Iraqi village. When a violent sandstorm comes, the women use the confusion to fight their way out. After that, however, the protagonist gets separated from the group and has to survive on her own in the desert. Some time later, she joins a rebel faction and takes up the fight against her former captors.
Some other noteworthy features in Insurgency: Sandstorm are to be: light vehicles for transportation and fire support as well as game modes designed for vehicle gameplay and new interactions with the environment, such us climbing ladders and door breaching. Moreover, the game will be powered by Unreal Engine 4. Insurgency: Sandstorm is supposed to come out on PC (Steam), Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 next year, with a closed alpha hopefully starting on PC by the end of 2017.
