FF XIII-2 HD is a mod for Final Fantasy XIII-2, created by MJB.

Description (in author’s own words)

Improves the visual quality of game for HD and UHD resolutions.

The FF XIII-2 HD mod is similar to the one made for the base XIII game by increasing the resolution of many of the textures used by the game to bring out detail and sharpness to the images. It also improves many of the models with a higher number of polygons, providing smoothness and a more natural look to the characters. Areas targeted by this mod are:

- World textures

- PC/NPC/Enemy textures

- Object/Item/Weapon textures

- Primary models including:

-- Serah (default, beachwear, white mage, summoner)

-- Noel (default)

-- Some NPCs (LeBreau, Alyssa, Yeul)

-- Many generic NPCs

However, not all textures were upscaled. There exists some limitations within the game. For example, individual game files can not exceed 2 GB in size. As many of the character/item textures exist within a single game file, some of the larger textures were skipped to provide room for multiple smaller ones. The improvement provided by this mod is less noticeable than the original XIII version as the original textures, in many cases, are lacking detail (analogy: an upscaled white wall is just a higher resolution white wall - it doesn't add detail or clarity). Also, a number of environments are an amalgam of multiple textures. While at 720p this probably had the effect of making the visual look of an area better, it doesn't scale well to higher resolutions. Improved textures in these areas get "washed out" by the blending of other textures. Due to these texture limitations, more effort was put into improving the individual models to make them more realistic with an emphasis on Serah & Noel. It should be noted that pre-rendered cutscenes are not improved by this mod.

This mod requires that the 4 GB patch be applied to the main game exe file. If you own the Steam version, then this mod will automatically patch the file if you have not already done so. The mod may be able to patch other versions, but it has not been tested and you would be better off to download the 4GB patch directly from NTCore. You can still install the mod even if the mod can not verify the 4 GB patch, but it will definitely crash if you have not applied the patch yourself.

This mod should work on both the English and Japanese audio versions.

If you use any other FF XIII-2 mods, you should install them prior to this mod. Note: this mod is not compatible with Apotamkin's Closet.

Installation:

Prior to installing the mod, ensure the game starts and runs correctly. Unzip the mod into a directory of your choice (not the game directory) and run the installation file "FFXIII-2 HD.bat" and follow the instructions. The installation process is similar to the FF XIII mod. You will need probably around 20 GB of disk space for the mod to run.

Disclaimer: Be aware that this an early release of this mod and there may be some bugs remaining. If you encounter any problems or bugs, please report them either by posting a message or using the BUGS tab. Installing the FF13Fix mod may help performance on the game. Also, due to issues with the base game, it is highly recommended that you turn off Steam cloud saves as this can cause crashes even in the unmodded game.
