“Fallout: New California is a single-player role-playing game with a strong focus on story,“ says Brandan Lee, the man behind the modification, of his project. For many, New California is the true successor to Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian’s 2010 evergreen RPG. For some, the mere existence of this new, quest-filled and fully voiced singpleplayer experience is enough to derail the Fallout 76 hypetrain. But Lee does not think these two are mutually exclusive:
Fallout: New California has a lot of dialogues and offers one of the most complex quest systems ever with more important decisions than ever before. If you want that, you'll find what you're looking for here. If you don't feel like it, you can play Fallout 76. What if you want both? No problem!
After 7 years of development, Fallout: New California BETA has been released on ModDB and can be downloaded and installed like any other New Vegas modification. Weighing a whopping 6.6GB, it has it all:
- a brand new story (with 3 different endings) set in Los Angeles and taking place before the events of Fallout 3;
- over 16,000 dialogue lines, all of them fully voiced;
- up to 30 hours of gameplay;
- a map that’s two-thirds the size of the Mojave Wasteland.
Keep in mind that New California is NOT a standalone mod. You still need New Vegas to play it. Now, enough talking – just try it out. It’s free after all.
