The new model looks like an interesting option for those looking for good performance for a decent price.

The GeForce GTX 1660 has not yet been officially announced by Nvidia, but hardly anyone doubts the existence of this model and its release seems to be just a matter of time. The most recent proof came from a performance test leak.

The data shows the performance of the GTX 1660 Ti in an Ashes of the Singularity benchmark. Interestingly, they concern the notebook version of the card. On high settings, the chipset scored 7400 points and displayed 75.6 frames per second on average. For comparison, the notebook version of the GTX 1060 Ti boasts a score of 6200 points in similar tests.

This means that the GTX 1660 Ti is approximately 19% faster than GTX 1060. The new chipset should therefore prove to be a noteworthy proposition for those who are looking for good performance but don't want to spend a fortune on a GPU.

Let’s just remind that according to earlier reports GeForce GTX 1660 will be similar to the GeForce RTX 2060 with one key difference – the GTX 1660 will not support ray tracing. Combined with lower price this would make it an attractive product, especially as ray tracing in video games is still in its infancy.

We still don't know when Nvidia will officially announce the new cards. The performance test leak only covered the netbook version, but we expect that desktop models will also be available. According to last week's rumours, the GTX 1660 Ti is to be equipped with the TU116 core with 1536 CUDA units, as well as 6 GB of GDDR6 video RAM on a 192-bit bus. The same sources report that the price should be around $250.
