There will be a Titanfall 3 after all?

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Another major installment in the Titanfall series may be created;
  2. It is suggested by the statements of Vince Zampella (CEP of Respawn Entertainment) and Andrew Wilson (CEO of Electronic Arts);
  3. The game should be released later this year.

Respawn Entertainment recently released a free battle royale shooter Apex Legends, set in the Titanfall universe. Although the title quickly attracted crowds of players, there were also voices of criticism – some people decided that a F2P title following a hyped formula is only a way to quickly monetize the brand, while leaving its soul behind. The simultaneous report that the third major installent in the cycle has been cancelled only added fuel to the fire.

It seems, however, that there is yet hope for us piloting a Titan. At least that’s what Vince Zampella, the CEO of Respawn Entertainment, suggests.

Of course, the wording used by Zampella is extremely inaccurate and may just as well refer to mobile game, an unexpected DLC for Titanfall 2 or even Apex Legends itself. What is the studio working on? Andrew Wilson, the CEO of Electronic Arts, shed some light on the statement of the head of Respawn during a recent call to investors.

"While I don't have more to share with the particulars of what we have coming from Titanfall, Respawn are a tremendously creative team. They always anticipated that Apex Legends would be a spectacular game in the battle royale genre, and that they'd use that as a ramp point to deliver a truly creative take on what Titanfall is in a premium context later on in the year," said Wilson.

So we know that we will get a "premium" product, which might be interpreted that the project may be something bigger – maybe even a full-fledged continuation?
