A cost analysis of the latest flagship smartphone from Samsung, the Galaxy S10, has appeared on the web. The US variant with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of memory comes with the price tag of $999. How much of this amount actually covers the production of one copy? Less than half.

According to estimates by TechInsights, creating one Samsung Galaxy S10 costs about $420. The most expensive component, absorbing a fifth of this amount, is the AMOLED Infinity-O screen, for which the Koreans pay $86.5 a piece. Then we have the SoC Exynos 9820 - one copy costs 70.5 dollars. An interesting fact is that its production is 9 dollars cheaper than the model from the previous generation, i.e. Exynosa 9810.

A clear graph shows how much Samsung spends on the components of the Galaxy S10 smartphone.

A large part of the expenses is also spent on the camera ($56.5), operating and internal memory ($50.5), as well as the test procedure, the cost of putting the device together and the extras that can be found in the box ($34.5). However, this does not change the fact that the production of one unit of the Galaxy S10 model is slightly more than 40% of its retail price. Of course, it is worth remembering that we also have to add the expenses for marketing, sales service or research and development department to this cost. This situation shows that the manufacturer's earnings are one of the important components strongly influencing the price of mobile devices.
