Call of Duty, FIFA, Battlefield and Assassin's Creed. What do these four series have in common? It's simple – each installment released every year sells millions of copies, thus bringing its publishers enormous profits. Nevertheless, the more conscious players have voiced similar opinions about them in the recent years – "the X series is over", "here we go again", "crap as usual," and other more or less choosy statements regarding the condition and quality of gameplay. We are not going to discuss whether such opinions are relevant in relation to the first three titles, as we are going to focus on position number four, that is Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise. Any moment now the next part of the cycle – Syndicate – is going to hit the shelves offering several innovations, but will they be enough to satisfy the fans eager for a revolution? Is the direction chosen by the creators a part of the series of trends we’ve been seeing lately? If so, which ones? These and some other issues will be discussed in this article. What’s more, we were also able to get a comment from the authors on some of the most frequent complaints. In an interview with Scott Phillips (director of Assassin's Creed: Syndicate) we learned, among other things, what the future holds for the contemporary storyline that's been a bit neglected recently.
