After the spectacular defeat of the series' spin-off, Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong , the ratings for the sequel to the cult game about modern vampires dropped significantly. We still know nothing about the release date, and the publisher has resigned from cooperation with Hardsuit Labs. Before that happened, Chris Avellone, one of the most experienced RPG specialists, was removed from the work on the script. While it's still possible for a sequel to be released, its quality is under a huge question mark. Unfortunately, it doesn't affect the potential remake of the Troika's production released in 2004.
Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines is a game that takes full advantage of the capabilities of the Source engine. While in retrospect, early 3D seems to be worse-off in the long-run than isometric projection, it worked really well in 2004. The journey through the sewers, the dirty streets of Santa Monica, or the Hollywood cemetery was a feast for the senses.
The combat system could be rebalanced – excessively difficult at first, then just a formality. A little balance wouldn't hurt both in case of clashes with larger groups of enemies and with bosses. First of all, however, it would be necessary to patch the game, enlarge the location, eliminate overwhelming loading screens and give the game an ending that fits the entire pace of action – Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines was overall extremely buggy.
Vampire The Masquerade – Redemption doesn't enjoy as much sympathy as Bloodlines after the years. Nevertheless, for lovers of vampire climates, it's still a must-have. Unfortunately, the game from 2000 aged really bad, so if you want to taste the adventures of the crusader Christof Romuald over the course of almost a thousand (!) years, you have to prepare for a fight not only with enemies, but also crude gameplay.
