Remember the times when we forgave Bethesda even the most irritating bugs, because we at least received decent RPGs, with technical flaws, mediocre script, and stiff dialogues but on the other hand, enormous worlds, great atmosphere and reach gameplay? Two games that illustrate this period best are the first two installments in The Elder Scrolls series - Arena and Daggerfall.
The latter one was often called Buggerfall for a reason. Completing this game bordered on the miraculous. Nonetheless, these still are two RPGs that are bound to impress players today with the scale of the universe as well as vast number of quests and available activities. Additionally, this formula of good old raw fantasy, with a naked (and pixelated) petticoat waiting at every turn...
HOW WELL DID IT AGE?
So-so. Controls and gameplay mechanics became obsolete. Still, if you want to dive into one of the largest worlds in the history of RPGs, try giving the old The Elder Scrolls a shot. Prepare for bugs, though. Numerous, hunny bugs.
