Nostalgia is a treacherous beast. Sometimes the brilliant titles from our youth turn out miserable parodies of themselves when we play them after years. Fortunately, you can try many of them for free.

It’s as simple as it gets. You, your ship, endless ammo, and even more aliens to shoot. I don’t know if there’s anything that might kill this genre. Tyrian 2000 is a light 2D space shooter, in which players observe the action from the top-down perspective (like in the ancient Galaxian), shoot, avoid enemy units and projectiles to protect the mineral from the titular planet. As a bonus - players can design their ship and take it to battle. So… you know well enough what to do.
P.S. There is also an Android version of the game available. It’s called OpenTyrian.
HOW WELL DID IT AGE?
Actually not at all. The visuals - obviously - are quite old, yet clear and aesthetic. And the formula of a vertical shooter gives you something simple and light, straight from arcade machines.
