15 Indie Games With Best Graphics

Indie games are customarily developed by relatively small teams, so they rarely bring "vast, open world" and complex decision systems. Nevertheless, some of them simply can dazzle you with their audiovisual design!

Table of Contents

Cuphead

  1. Genre: arcade game with platformer elements
  2. Engine: Unity
  3. Music: Kristofer Maddigan

Cuphead is one of a kind. Although the developers are often inspired by retro animations, this was the first title to creatively utilize the method of animation dating back to the 1930s – with success, on such a scale. This is what Disney games would look like if they were created before the Second World War.

The design is insane. Animated characters also keep pace with static backgrounds, just like those almost a hundred years ago. The Cuphead and Mugman brothers dance and wreak havoc to the rhythm of vibing pieces by Kristofer Maddigan. The audiovisual setting is captivating throughout the game, even if we mainly move on relatively small boards and fight bosses.

What distinguishes Cuphead, apart from the beautiful graphics, is also the level of difficulty that's pushed to the limit. If you do not have experience with this type of productions, you can have big problems even at the easiest level. And normal is real hell! However, the completion is compensated by the ending, as atmospheric as the rest of the game.

LIMBO

Limbo is one of those indie games that you can't forget. Although there isn't a single dialogue throughout the game, and the graphics are in monochrome, this title simply crushes with the vibes! And meeting a spider... You just have to experience it for yourself!

GENESIS NOIR

Genesis Noir is a beautiful little game that uses the style of classic film noir to tell a new story. The protagonist explores not only the world known to us, trying to save their loved one at all costs. There's a lot of great music and unforgettable surreal events. To say that the atmosphere is unique is to say nothing. No wonder the title was showered with awards at the Independent Games Festival.
