15 Indie Games With Best Graphics

Indie games are customarily developed by relatively small teams, so they rarely bring "vast, open world" and complex decision systems. Nevertheless, some of them simply can dazzle you with their audiovisual design!

Death's Door

  1. Genre: action adventure
  2. Engine: Unity
  3. Music: David Fenn

The raven, which we control in Death's Door, doesn't fly, but can collect souls. At first glance, his work resembles a boring job in a large corporation. However, appearances are deceptive – during his travels he traverses huge areas full of enemies and collectibles, and faces powerful bosses. Each of them also has an interesting history.

One of the inspirations for the game was the anime of the famous Ghibli studio. Indeed, the witch from Death's Door seems surprisingly similar to the witch Yubaba from Spirited Away, and the little black creatures in the smoking room immediately bring to mind a creature helping Kamaji. The atmosphere of Miyazaki's works can be felt from miles away!

This doesn't mean, however, that Death's Door is limited to regurgitated ideas. Oh no! Each of the lands has its own unique character, romantic music and appropriately selected background colors. These in turn look just wonderful!

TUNIC

In terms of gameplay and the way of creating backgrounds, Tunic resembles Death's Door. However, the heroic fox fights a bit differently, and the game's style uses both fantasy and science fiction tropes. Also noteworthy is the great animation of magical weapon types and a satisfying combat system.
