15 Indie Games With Best Graphics

Indie games are customarily developed by relatively small teams, so they rarely bring "vast, open world" and complex decision systems. Nevertheless, some of them simply can dazzle you with their audiovisual design!

Monument Valley

  1. Genre: Puzzle
  2. Engine: Unity
  3. Music: Stafford Bawler, Obfusc & Grigori

The game, developed in Unity, made debut on the PC 8 years after its original release. Previously, the adventures of the mute princess Ida were only available on Android and iOS. Considering the platforms on which the game was first released, and the distant time of its creation, the graphics look amazing. The creators focused on minimalism, inspired, among others, by Escher's paintings. The whole world is composed of simple blocks, each of them, however, retains the colors appropriate for the arrangement in space and the characteristics of the land traversed by the heroine.

Perhaps the greatest advantage of this production is excellent object physics – very often princess Ida has to face optical illusions and, for example, cross a bridge that does not seem to exist. You can find the way by properly moving and rotating some objects.

For mobile standards of 2014, the game features an extremely extensive and varied soundtrack created by several artists. It allows you to completely focus on completing the next levels. The plot itself is limited to a simple assumption – Princess Ida is looking for a way through the land of monuments to obtain forgiveness for an act of wrongdoing that she supposedly committed in the past. And even if we don't learn much about it in the end, the gameplay remains one of the nicer experiences that a smartphone can provide.
