7 Achievements Which Had Me Cheating

Many people enjoy getting achievements in games. Some like it so much that they're ready to cheat in order to reach the goal. It's happened to me too – and more than once! Here are the clearest examples of it.

100th Anniversary

Crater Lake and Yosemite National Park – you can see them even closer here than they really are.
  1. Game: Civilization 6
  2. Percentage of people who earned this achievement (on Steam): 0.4%
  3. Cheat method: Create a special map

Ah, Civilization 6... You can play it for several hundred hours and not even win half of the achievements. Mainly because some of the challenges offered by this strategy require meeting a few, very specific – often random – criteria related to the history of a given nation. If you are lucky, the achievement may be credited to your account at the very first session; equally, a hundred sessions may prove not to be enough.

This round number does not appear here by accident – I intend to get all 307 achievements available on Steam one day, and to prove that I started doing it, I will reveal to you how I managed to meet the challenge of the 100th Anniversary. As this is the rarest catch on this list, I am definitely not blaming myself for resorting to a little cheat – especially since the developers themselves provided me with the right tool.

The task is to lead America – that is, choosing Roosevelt from the pool of leaders – to create two national parks in one game in the area of selected natural wonders. One has to be located at the Crater Lake and the other has to cover two tiles of the Yosemite Hills. Simple? Yes – as long as both of these miracles actually appear on a randomly generated map, and we meet the rest of the criteria. Luck is essential, and although you can help it, for example by choosing a huge map with as many natural wonders as possible, there's no need to be left at the mercy of a coincidence. Just use the map maker offered by the Sixth Civilization18×16 svg and you are almost done. Just use the new in a campaign and play America – don't forget to configure the game beforehand so that it starts in a later era, in the historical location of this nation, preferably without barbarians and away from other players. Just a small, fast cheat.
