Awesome Brand New Shooters That Embody the Spirit of the 90s.
Players prefer to shoot in open-ended worlds, but they used to traverse complex mazes full of secrets. Doom-like games have greatly evolved, but as it turns out, new shooters inspired by Quake, Hexen or Duke Nukem 3D are still being created.

Even more Hexen, even more Quake, as well as some Unreal (mainly due to the specific color palette) can be found in Amid Evil. Another dark fantasy title. The plot, as usual, is vestigial. As a mysterious "Champion" we travel through stages located somewhere in another dimension, purifying the sacred areas from the forces of evil. Same as in retro shooters, maps are complex and nonlinear, requiring keys to unlock certain areas, while a thorough exploration is rewarded with hidden secrets.
Like Quake, the gameplay begins in the hub level, from where we move through portals to the next levels, called episodes. Each one is distinguished by a slightly different style and colour palette. The enemies are characteristic of their old-school behavior, often attacking the player straight on instead of leaning out from behind covers. Amid Evil was created by a studio founded by David Szymanski, the author of DUSK.
