What's Resident Evil Village?

The next, eighth part of Resident Evil is a direct continuation of the previous one, presenting the further fate of Ethan Winters and his family. At the same time, according to orthodox fans of the series, it is not a direct continuation of the legacy of classic survival horror. Is that bad? Personally, I had a great time.

Contrary to me, our hero, Ethan, is not very happy about his stay in the Romanian village. I don't want to reveal too much, but fate does not spare him misery, forcing him to wander into the darkest and most hostile places to save his loved ones.

The discrepancies with the horror canon I mentioned can be noticed on many levels. Starting from the village, which is the central point of the game, the base of the protagonist and a location giving semblance of open world, through rather few moments evoking genuine fear, to a very approachable difficulty level and a very interesting set of monsters and anomalies we encounter.

What makes it worth it?

The newest part of Resident is just a great game. The good humans of Capcom seem to be able to turn anything they touch into gold. And when they finally decide we need to be afraid, they can be very, very convincing (the house at the waterfall... Dread!). When they create characters, they do so with the sensitivity and panache of seasoned novelists, often inventing grotesque and exaggerated, but interesting personas. When handing a weapon to the player, they do not forget about the ensuring appropriate feel and power.

Generally, the authors stopped at nothing during the creative process, which is especially visible in the uncompromising nature of the story, and some splendid graphics. Add to that the fact that the game was almost perfectly optimized and polished, and you might be impressed.
