Beware of darkness! The shadows hide creatures that want to drink your sims' blood. If you have the Vampire expansion, that is. This DLC adds an entirely new neighborhood, populated by ancient monsters preying on the sims' vital powers. Admittedly, we drink plasma instead of blood because of the age restrictions, but the rest of the Vampire business – hypnosis and biting necks – is totally here.
As a vampire, our sim has to avoid sun rays, but this slight disadvantage doesn't overshadow all the benefits. Less needs, some vampire powers (developed through a skill tree!), super-speed or imposing your will on others allows you to feel like a higher being. And we don't even need a rebellious-goth-teenager appearance, because any vampire can adopt a "kinder" version of themselves (if they're not thirsty for plasma).
IT ALL STARTED WITH VICKI THE VAMPIRESS
Vampires have been present in the series since the first Sims. In the Makin' Magic expansion, we could buy magical goods from a Vampiress named Vicki. The possibility of turning your own sim into a bloodsucker came in the addition for The Sims 2 entitled Nightlife. Vampires had different appearance and less needs, and they could be cured with a potion from the Gypsy Matchmaker. In the next installment, vampires were also introduced in an expansion, called Supernatural – it also included werewolves, fairies, witches, and so on.
Vampires also brings a number of items and decorations fit for a Halloween party or the Addams family home. Huge pipe organs, gloomy paintings, statues with webs here and there, or huge candlesticks – that's what you call decor! You've got to make sure the atmosphere is right. Bite marks are visible on the victim's neck, and they're easily turned into children of the night. A great addition, and not just for Twilight fans.
