What is Star Wars: Squadrons?
Electronic Arts is seeking to take full advantage of the license for games from the Star Wars universe. This time, it's time for a nostalgic punch, letting us to sit at the controls of space machines and take part in dynamic battles. Fans of games in the X-Wing series should be pleased, especially as Star Wars: Squadrons is going to cater to both fans of single-player campaigning, as well as players keener on online clashes. There will also be VR support!
Star Wars: Squadrons will not be an X-Wing simulator. While the developers will strive to ensure full immersion, but the game also isn't trying to cater exclusively to hardcore gamers. However, combat will be far from arcade, so pilot skills should still count. Simulation elements are designed to provide the impression of fighting in space, and the view from the cockpit will effectively reduce our field of view. Pilots will need to manage power output and use support units if their ship is damaged. At the same time, the whole thing is promised to be accessible to casual players.
OUR EXPECTATIONS
There hasn't been a good game like this one set in the Star Wars universe for a long time. When the first leaks came out about Star Wars: Squadrons, I thought it was going to be a Rogue Squadron-type of shooter, which would be fun, too. However, the more information was revealed about this project, the clearer it became that it was closer to the X-Wing series, which I was delighted to realize. The game promises to be brilliant – detailed cockpit view, ship energy management, an extensive story campaign (rather than just multiplayer), and the ability to fly ships from both sides of the conflict. Last year, Electronic Arts delighted all Star Wars fans with its excellent Jedi: Fallen Order. In October 2020, this publisher could rehearse this move.
