Games That Burried Their Dev Teams

Video games can be a real bonanza, or spectacular flops. Some of them fail so badly, though, that they bring doom to entire dev teams. Here are 13 such cases.

LawBreakers and Radical Heights

Cliff Bleszinski needs no introduction. He is the father of the Unreal and Gears of War franchises and has achieved some great successes for Epic Games. He even announced the first Fortnite: Save the World. However, twenty years later, in 2021, he parted ways with the studio. Two years later, Cliff founded his own studio, Boss Key Productions, which tried to make a stir in the market, albeit with poor effects.

During the four years of existence, developers from Boss Key Productions have released LawBreakers and Radical Heights. That first game was supposed to be a more dynamic and brutal alternative to Overwatch, made in the style of the classic shooter arena, but in the end it simply failed on the market. Maybe the completely bland graphic style was to blame, or maybe too strong a competition? The second production became the company's last resort and an attempt to ride the battle royale wave of popularity. The affair wasn't successful and the studio closed in May 2018.

Actually, it's hard to say anything meaningful about Radical Heights itself. This game didn't manage to spread wings, because before Boss Key Productions was closed, the game was still in a (very) early-access stage. Could it conquer the market over time, just like Apex Legends? Doubtful, because it didn't arouse much interest at the beginning, and the complete failure of the studio's previous game certainly didn't help build the hype.
