Games That Burried Their Dev Teams

Video games can be a real bonanza, or spectacular flops. Some of them fail so badly, though, that they bring doom to entire dev teams. Here are 13 such cases.

Gigantic

I definitely feel sorry for this MOBA game. Gigantic was an original variation that brought third-person view and action elements into a rather formulaic genre. Compared to the competition, this title stood out with exaggerated world, colorful characters and dynamic gameplay. Motiga's work had a lot of potential, but a few bad decisions were made, and the whole thing was released far too late. Releasing a MOBA in 2017? Risky, to say the least.

Nevertheless, this was not the reason why Gigantik faced such big problems. Originally, Motiga studio started a cooperation with Microsoft. With such support, the developers were able to create their title without any hustle, but there was one catch – the dynamic MOBA was supposed to be a Windows Store and Xbox One exclusive.

Developers realized too late that this wasn't the best solution for them. In 2016, they decided to establish a cooperation with Perfect World Entertainment and to enter their ARC Games platform, as well as Steam. Unfortunately, it didn't help, and a few months after the game's premiere, there were significant layoffs in Motiga studio, which was finally dissolved. The remaining employees were absorbed by Perfect World Entertainment, which promised to develop and further support Gigantic. It lasted until the end of July 2018, when the new owners changed their mind and the servers of this production were shut down.
