Rift – a very hot premiere

The worst moment for a MMORPG is the release. Usually the creators use the so-called “stress tests" to test the servers. There are also beta-tests, both open and closed, but one does not simply prepare for the horde of tens of thousands of players. In the case Rift, however, no one was ready for the Horde of monsters that came in March 2011.

In a small town at the start of the game, portals were opened, which are an element of a regular mechanic in Rift. Monsters were supposed to come out of them, and they were supposed to simply provide some diversity in the game. The problem was, however, the uncontrolled number of monsters that caused lags on the servers. Desperate players rushed at the enemies to inflict any damage before their own death. After two hours of fighting, they managed to recapture the city from the hands of the beasts. However, this was not the end!

After the crusade, it turned out that exactly all the opponents disappeared from the entire server. However, they left behind valuable loot that was just lying on the ground, ready to pick up. The players reported that they have never had so many "World First" titles in their life, and were armed to the teeth with maximum-level hardware.
