12. Days Gone
What's that about? As a former motorcycle gang member, we drive around zombie-ravaged North America and try to survive and come to terms with the past.
Days Gone is a rather interesting case. Initially, the game did not arouse much enthusiasm - the zombie theme chosen by the developers seemed already strongly exploited, there were also voices that Sony could do better in terms of gameplay. Prior to the release, the critics' reviews were not too good either and usually oscillated around sixes and sevens, occasionally with some higher scores.
However, when it came to the premiere and the players got their hands on Days Gone, the response was much more optimistic than both the ratings and the pre-premiere enthusiasm indicated. Also, among our fellow editors, there is no shortage of supporters of the production prepared by Bend Studio.
During the game, players assume the role of Deacon St. John, a former member of a motorcycle gang who must find himself in an extremely dangerous world ravaged by a virus that turns people into mindless monsters. Tormented by a painful past, including the loss of a loved one, he tries to survive, traveling on his motorcycle through devastated North America.
In terms of mechanics, this is a fairly traditional action game with an open world and a strongly marked plot. Deacon travels longer distances on his trusty mechanical steed, which he must regularly take care of e.g. by keeping an eye on the fuel gauge. Between trips, we explore dangerous areas and fight other people and hordes of freakers who can pile up to several hundred "individuals". Days Gone is definitely neither a "revolution" nor "new quality", but this game knows very well what it wants to be - and it turns out perfectly.
