Some studios just can do no wrong. And it doesn't take Rockstar kind of giant. The nearly 20-member team of Supergiant Games has once again proved that what counts most in game dev is good idea and sheer passion. After sensational Bastion and equally great Pyre, the team's next hit was Hades a roguelike dungeon crawler inspired by Greek mythology. The protagonist is incarnated as Zagreus, son of Hades, trying against his father's will to get out of the realm of darkness and reach the Olympus.

Hades is an example of a production in which everything works like a well-oiled machine. We have an interesting and engaging story with well-written dialogue, dynamic and satisfying combat with a high level of difficulty, diverse locations and weapon types and – as always – a wonderful soundtrack. All this has resulted in the production reaching over a million buyers and boasting high ratings in the reviews. Turns out not only reheated triple-A games can be contenders to the game of the year title. Hades is certainly one of those.
