The Witcher 3 Elements That Didn't Work in Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 are very different games at first glance. However, a keen eye will spot some very similar elements – not all of which work well in both games, though.

Gwent 2077 is still missing

The first time was fun. The one hundredth – not so much.

This next thing was not copied from The Witcher 3. However, someone decided that since the fantasy game had his minigame – received so well that it became the foundation of Blood War and lived to see an independent, much more extensive card game – Cyberpunk 2077 also needed something similar. At least that's the impression I get when completing this utterly boring minigame time and again.

It has a lot in common with the card game: optionality, relative simplicity and purpose, i.e. the ability to carry out some arguments without bloodshed. In The Witcher 3, you could, for example, play gwent with a guy who was in possession of the documents lost by the dwarf Muggs (The Dwarven Document Dilemma quest). In Cyberpunk 2077, hacking can be used to break in here and there, which allows you to stay sneaky and silent.

But matching numbers isn't quarter as fun as Gwent was. In addition, when we develop our character in this direction, there will be no more challenge in that. Sure, with a strong deck, you could also crush your opponents in The Witcher Card Game – but it still required a trace of strategy. One argument can be given to defend hacking – it is done in a bit more immersive way than Gwent.
