The Worst Games Of 2019 - The Bad, The Bad & The Ugly

Have you ever felt disappointed as a player? If yes, then we have prepared a list of lowest-scoring games which were released for any platform in 2019. Some titles may surprise you.

Table of Contents

WWE 2k20

Metascore: 43-45

Available on: PC, PS4, XOne

Genre: sports

For almost twenty years the WWE series has been developed by Yuke studio and everyone was rather satisfied. Everybody? No! The one and only publisher of 2k Sports has decided to hand over the supervision of the latest installment to the Visual Concepts development team, which has supported Yuke in previous years with minor tasks. A recipe for disaster? Yes, but probably no one expected it's going to be that bad.

In comparison to WWE 2k19, this year's edition has seen a serious decline in quality. Wrestlers' 3D models, which used to impress with their level of detail and amazing animation, now look as if they've been imported straight from some old game from PlayStation 2. Controls became less responsive and clumsy. Characters reluctantly reacted to players' actions. The weird physics engine is hilarious and as astonishing as things we could see in Hello Neighbour or Goat Simulator. The whole game is flawed with such a high number of comical glitches that watching gameplay videos on YouTube seems to be a better option instead of playing it.

Contra: Rogue Corps

Metascore: 40-56

Available on: PC, PS4, XOne, Switch

Genre: Twin-stick shooter

We have to admit that Konami is very consistent in destroying each of its cult brands. After burying Silent Hills and releasing Metal Gear Survive, probably only to piss off Hideo Kojima, the Japanese developer decided to reach for a gem from the past and released a new installment of Contra. This is a really bad game, and it has nothing to do with the original series popular among NES/Pegasus fans – a whole generation that have reared on these games in the past.

Instead of a two-dimensional shooter, in which we could complete subsequent levels and defeat armies of enemies, developer has decided to convert the game into a 3D twin-stick shooter focused on co-op mode for 4 players. Each player controls a unique character, including a Panda cyborg (yes it's not a joke). Such redesign of the whole game might have made some sense, and it already happened once in the case of Neo Contra. After all, we're still dealing with a total slasher, so the essence of Contra is preserved. The problem is that the creators didn't manage to compete with other representatives of the newly chosen genre.

Controls in Rogue Corps seem obnoxiously slow and awkward, which make the monotonous battles with the incoming hordes of enemies a hideous unpleasant work. Many elements of the game may totally discourage you from playing – issues with camera view during boss fights, inability to pause the game during time-limited levels, imprecise targeting system which makes it impossible to aim at more specific targets.

Silent Hill blasted, Metal Gear buried, Contra eliminated. What's next, Konami? Maybe it's time to ruin Castlevania next year?

He started with amateur websites, which he coded himself in HTML, then he moved on to increasingly larger portals. A computer engineer, but he was always more drawn to writing than programming, and he decided to tie his future with the former. In games, he primarily looks for stories, emotions, and immersion that no other medium can provide - hence, among his favorite titles, are games focusing on narration. Believes that NieR: Automata is the best game ever made.
