The Worst Games of 2021 - Very Non-definitive Edition

The awards ceremony for the best games of the year is over. But what about the worst? Since there's still no equivalent of the Golden Raspberries for games, let's use our list of the most disappointing releases of the past year as a guide.

Table of Contents

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition

  1. Released: November 11
  2. Developer: Rockstar Games / Grove Street Games
  3. Platforms: PC Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
  4. Average rating on Metacritic: 47/100

How to spoil one of the greatest series in history? Only Rockstar knows that. Instead of a great celebration for the twentieth anniversary of the famous Grand Theft Auto series, there was great disappointment. The refreshed versions of the original three, 3D installments, prepared for this important moment, turned out to be a huge flop. Improvements in the visual setting did not make the old games prettier, but rather emphasized the shortcomings of the originals. And the graphics is just the beginning of a whole avalanche of errors.

The new versions of the iconic GTA installments have trouble running in stable 60 frames on the newest consoles, and the number of bugs and weird situations goes off the chart. As if that were not enough, the list grows when you look at the Switch version. It actually seems that the authors of the remasters relied on the source code of poorly made ports for mobile platforms (sic), which were then transferred to the Unreal Engine 4, and this was the source of most of the issues. It's also quite sad (or comforting, depends how you look at it) that the modders are doing a much better job at mending the game than the devs.
