New Tales from the Borderlands
New Tales from the Borderlands, 2K Games, 2022
New Tales from the Borderlands is the only contender capable of an equal fight with the embarrassing and cringely humor of the new Saints Row . Apart from the low-level humor - which for this series is one of the bigger disadvantages, we have the symbolic inability to connect the events happening during the game into one coherent whole. Here we are talking about QTEs (which fortunately can be turned off), or the majority of important decisions appearing in the game.
In New Tales from the Borderlands, all features of the series that we came to know and love are botched. No good dialogue and brilliant humor, no interesting characters, nor satisfying gameplay. There is one element that pulled through. We are talking about characteristic visual style which once again does its job. However, this is not enough to buy NTftB with a clear conscience - even if you are an avid fan of the series.
