The action is viewed from high above, and the player takes part in both contests inspired by real sport disciplines and modes from popular video games. As a result, the aforementioned animals can put their skills to the test mainly while playing football, doing sumo wrestling, or participating in competitions based on the rules of the popular Capture the Flag mode. What makes the game stand out among other similar titles, is that an advanced physics engine produces unusual behaviours of particular animals. Each animal-contestant has an extraordinarily long neck, which makes it harder to move around the arenas. Just like in the earlier games from this series, this one is also about controlling a "claw-shaped" space ship that moves in a network of tunnels. The gameplay focuses on eliminating enemies, avoiding enemy bullets and getting best results by increasing our score. To make the gameplay more interesting we can collect weapons and power-ups, but the game gets faster with each level. We can also encounter more and more challenging enemies. In terms of graphics, Tempest 4000 uses the same vector technology that was used in the previous games, but employs the newest developer techniques and particle effects.
