Fuga: Melodies of Steel Description
Fuga: Melodies of Steel is an RPG in which we take command over a squad of children trying to recapture their homeland from the hands of invaders with the help of a giant tank. Game was developed by CyberConnect2 studio, which has in its portfolio such projects as Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot or Asura's Wrath.
Plot
Fuga: Melodies of Steel takes us on a journey to a fantastic world, which is inhabited by two species of anthropomorphic animals - Caninu and Felineko. Peaceful life in the Free Lands of Gasco comes to an end when they fall victim to an invasion from the aggressive Berman Empire. The main character of the game is Malt, a young shepherd, who managed to escape from the war with his sister named Mei and a group of friends. After they discover a giant tank known as Taranis in a mountain cave, they decide to use it to save their homeland.
Mechanics
Fuga: Melodies of Steel is a side-scroller. During the game we spend most of the time on the deck of the tank. Taranis is both our base and main weapon, which serves us to fight with the forces of the Berman Empire. We choose our next destinations from the map. As the more difficult path we choose, the better rewards will wait for us, sometimes it's worth to resign from the most optimal way in favor of the one that will offer greater challenges.
Battles with enemies take place in turn-based mode. During them we use three Taranis weapons, each of which can be crewed with up to two squad members. The choice of operators is important because they have unique skills and strengths, which we can use on the battlefield. In addition, we must remember that opponents are vulnerable to attacks with specific weapons, and by shooting the enemy with the right weapon we delay his turn (experienced players can completely dominate the battle, not allowing the adversary to make any move). Apart from that, good relations between the young soldiers contribute to our success, which provide us with various bonuses on the battlefield. If despite all of these possibilities we lose we can decide to use the last resort, which is the Soul Cannon. Using this powerful cannon requires sacrifice, which we can't always (and shouldn't always) afford...
In between fights with Bermans we can explore Taranis' deck and talk with our companions or produce various improvements. Apart from that, from time to time we should go on expeditions, during which we explore the ancient ruins full of secrets and dangers (which the members of the squad deal with using guns). A moment of rest is provided by visits to the villages, where we can find stores with useful goods.
Technical aspects
