The game features a range of characters from the animated original (e.g. Goku, Krillin, Yamcha), and the gameplay consists of exploration, developing your characters, and combat with enemies. The battles are turn-based, and up to three characters can take part in them. Apart from standard foes, there are also more challenging boss enemies. One of the game's strong points are the visuals, reflecting the original style of the manga.
