No Place for Bravery

No Place for Bravery is a low fantasy hack'n'slash action RPG that uses elements known from roguelikes. The game was developed in 2012 by the Brazilian independent studio Glitch Factory, the authors of Party Saboteurs: After Party.

Plot

The action of the game takes place in a cruel, brutal fantasy world. The plot of No Place for Bravery tells the story of Thorn, an old but still ambitious warrior, who is constantly haunted by nightmares. He sets off on a journey through a war-torn and violent world to find his long lost daughter. His adopted, disabled son, Phid, is helping him. While learning about history, which refers to the experiences of the creators themselves, the player faces many moral dilemmas and is sometimes forced to make a difficult decision, living with its consequences.

Mechanics

The gameplay in No Place for Bravery focuses mainly on dynamic, evaporating blows of the fight, which, according to the creators, refers in style to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. A player goes into a world where warriors like Thorn die all the time. Every, even the slightest stumble during a clash is severely punished, and mindless attacking the enemy may end in an imminent death.

Technical aspects

No Place for Bravery was maintained in a retro style by using pixelart graphics, reminiscent of games from the early 90s. Despite its simplicity, the game is able to impress with its locations made with incredible care and hand painted textures.
