The visual setting of the game was prepared with the use of target-shading technique, and the background music was taken care of by Motoi Sakuraba.

The gameplay is similar to the game's predecessor's, featuring turn-based combat.

Nights of Azure takes us to an isolated island kingdom, in which people must face demonic creatures that roam at night. The main heroine, Arnice, is a warrior gifted with dark powers. Her duty is to protect priestess Lilysee who – according to legends – can lift the curse that was cast on the land by sacrificing herself.

Plot of Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness has been set in universe well-known to fans of the series, with culture and technology resembling that of 16th century’s Europe. The story takes place 500 years after the events of the previous game, and its main hero is a 23 years old knight, Fidel Camus, who tries to protect his home village Stahr.
