The plot of the game focuses on the conflict between the conquering Empire and the rebel faction of rebels who describe themselves as Returners. The title offers the largest number of playable heroes in the history of the series (14 in total) and, in addition to the typical features of fantasy, it also introduces elements of the steampunk trend for the first time.

One day, due to unexplainable events, a group of students enters a terrible and grotesque version of their school in which the corridors are filled with decomposing corpses.
