Action games. Wide category of games that require reflex, accuracy and agility. It includes, among other things, shooters (e.g. Call of Duty and Battlefield series) and action-adventure games (Tomb Raider). First and third person perspective (FPP/TPP) is used. In most cases we are playing as a character who has to defeat some enemies and reach a specific point. We can use a wide range of weapons, including pistols, rocket launchers, swords, knives and like. Action-adventure is a particular category within action games genre. A pack containing the first two games from the bestselling God of War series, remastered for the users of next generation consoles. In both games, originally released for PlayStation 2 in 2005 and 2007 respectively, we learn the story of the Spartan warrior Kratos, currently a hatchet man working for the Olympians. The gameplay is implemented in the form of a brutal third-person slasher, as we deal with a throng of mythological monsters and even mighty gods like Ares, or Zeus himself. We also meet many famous characters and get some mythical artifacts that help us fight in various ways. The first two parts in the series that comprise the God of War Collection have been refreshed by Bluepoint Games studio, now supporting 720p resolution and 60 FPS. The support for Trophies, not present in PlayStation 2 editions, has also been added.

An action game and a spin-off installment of the popular Uncharted series, developed as one of the launch titles of PlayStation Vita. Contrary to the major entries in the franchise, which were created by Naughty Dog, Uncharted: Golden Abyss was developed by Bend. Plot-wise, it is a prequel to the Uncharted series. In the game, we assume the role of a younger Nathan Drake who embarks on a journey to Panama to investigate a newly-discovered temple complex and solve the mystery behind a massacre of conquistador forces that took place 400 years ago. Remaining faithful to the spirit of the series, the events of Uncharted: Golden Abyss are very dynamic and are accompanied by arcade gameplay. Nathan Drake has to overcome various obstacles, climb, shoot, fight hand-to-hand, and solve logic puzzles. The controls utilize extra features of PSV, such as the touch screen and the built-in gyroscope. Uncharted: Golden Abyss offers a symphonic soundtrack composed by Clint Bajakian.

A sandbox game that defies classification, developed by the independent Mojang AB studio. Minecraft has been developed with the intention of unleashing the creativity of players, who can freely change the game's virtual world made from voxels (cubic blocks). The gameplay concentrates on terrain transformations, building structures, crafting items, and creating your own adventures. The game consists of two modes: a classic one, which allows for unending experience, and survival, in which we have to prepare to fend off monster assaults at night. In addition to single player, Minecraft also offers online multiplayer. The game from Mojang AB is distinguished by its unique retro visuals.

A first-person shooter with cRPG features and a sequel to the 2009ís hit. Gearbox Software studio once again managed the development, with the publishing support of 2K Games company. The gameís story is set some time after the events of first part. This time the players will face Handsome Jack, a self-proclaimed dictator of Pandora. The creators of Borderlands 2 have prepared four playable characters: Salvador, Maya, Zero, and Axton, representing one of the four different classes and different fighting style. Gameplay still retains the exhilarating gunplay, but the weapon mechanics have been thoroughly changed. Furthermore, the trademark of the series in the form of a four player co-op mode is also present.

A brutal dark fantasy third-person action game developed under the supervision of an industry legend and the co-creator of Mega Man, Keiji Inafune. In Soul Sacrifice, we assume the role of a young man raised by a cruel warlock. When the protagonist is to be sacrificed, he is saved from certain death by the appearance of a demonic tome describing the story of his foster father. Sucked into the pages of the book, he has to fight all the battles the warlock has fought by facing people turned by magic into foul monsters. The gameplay boils down mainly to killing subsequent hordes of enemies and offers an extensive combat system that allows us to perform various attacks, make use of a wide arsenal of weapons, and to use the environment to our advantage. It is complemented by an incredibly original magic system that requires the player character to sacrifice parts of his body.

A TPP action game by TT Fusion, developed for Nintendo and Sony portable consoles, based on the popular LEGO building blocks series, whose main theme are the adventures of young ninja warriors. The story of LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin is connected to the previous installment in the series. After defeating the tyrant and his Nindroid minions, the five heroes have to face another threat, which is the eponymous Ronin leading the Army of Shadows. He also deprives the heroes of their abilities, so before they can confront him, they need to regain them. Mechanics-wise, LEGO Ninjago is a dynamic action game, in which you control one of the heroes and fight hordes of enemies, using fairly easy but spectacular combo attacks. You also visit various locations, both previously known and new, and use various vehicles and mounts.

An action-adventure game featuring the superheroes from Marvel comic books. The title was created by Travellerís Tales Studio, experts at LEGO video games (e.g. LEGO The Lord of the Rings, LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, LEGO Harry Potter). Players can become Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and other superheroes, who are asked by Nick Fury from the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization to save the world from villains and other dangers. The developers stayed true to the well-proven gameplay mechanics that combines elements of action, brawler, and adventure game. As always, the game is filled with unlockable extras, and features a cooperation mode in split screen.

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 is the sequel to a 2010 release, an action adventure game by Traveller's Tales, combining the world of LEGO with the universe from the popular series of books and their movie adaptation. The plot of LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 is based on the last three books in the series, and the story is focused on Harry's fight against the powerful Lord Voldemort, who, after gathering more followers, becomes a real thread to the whole world of magic. During the game, the players can control various characters known from the universe created by J.K. Rowling, and visit a number of equally well-known locations, which at the same time feel completely new, since they are built out of LEGO blocks. The game is filled with adventure and arcade elements, but it also has its share of logic puzzles. Compared to the prequel, this game presents a gloomier and more serious world.

Gravity Rush (also known in its native Japan under the name of Gravity Daze) is a third-person action game, whose plot is set in Hekseville, a city modeled after towns from 19th and 20th century. We play as a heroine named Kat, who loses the memories of who and where she is. When our protagonist discovers she can manipulate gravitation, she decides to use her power to help the cityís inhabitants, which is constantly being destroyed by powerful gravitational storm. The gameplay comes down to exploring subsequent areas of the city, rescuing its endangered inhabitants and fighting monsters called Nevi that were summoned by storm, with the last activity coming down to finding their weak points. Katí strength comes from the aforementioned ability to control gravity, thanks to which she can e.g. float above the ground, walk on the walls of buildings or bounce from enemies flying in the air.

An action game developed by Japanese studio Tamsoft for the portable console PlayStation Vita. The main characters of Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni are teenage female warriors that are the victims of the mysterious V virus which gave them paranormal abilities. The girls are living on an island isolated from the world and together they fight hordes of mutants. The mechanics of Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni are similar to ones used in classic Japanese TPP hack and slash games like Devil May Cry. During a mission the player is fighting large groups of weaker opponents and powerful bosses. The female warriors can dodge and perform various attacks that can be combined into combos. The player can control one of seven playable characters and is accompanied by a female partner Ė whatís interesting, she can transform into a weapon for the player to use in combat. The story is presented like in visual novels and the story campaign offers different endings. The game also offers training mode, survival mode and various types of multiplayer modes for up to four players.

Another entry in the bestselling adventure game series, combining popular LEGO franchise with the classic universe of Star Wars. Its plot is largely based on the seventh part of the galactic saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and tells the story of completely new characters, though some familiar and iconic faces from previous movies appear in the background. There are also many exclusive plotlines that fill in the story gaps between Return of the Jedi and the latest movie in the series. The game mechanics remained mostly the same and the gameplay comes down to exploring, fighting enemies, and solving many logical puzzles, most of which require a creative use of the famous bricks. Nonetheless, some new features have been added, like allowing a multiply uses of single brick for different purposes and eye-catching blaster duels, during which we can make use of cover.

Developed by independent studio Dennaton Games, a brutal retro-style action game resembling the classic first installment in the Grand Theft Auto series. The action takes place during the 80s in the titular Miami. The main hero is a muscular ruffian who after receiving mysterious calls recorded on an answering machine commits a series of violent acts. Missions come down to murdering everyone in a given location. The protagonist can execute stealth attacks as well as engage in open combat. There are 35 types of firearms (pistols, shotguns, rifles) and weapons for close combat (knives, crowbars, baseball bats). The game also introduces special animal masks, which give the hero unique abilities. Even though the game features old-school graphics, it is filled with huge amounts of brutality, making it suitable only for adult players.

A tactical action game with stealth features, developed by Konami, as well as continuation of the Metal Gear series, which began over a decade earlier on 8-bit MXS computers. The story takes place in the not-so-far future and tells about an attack of a dangerous terrorist organization on a secret military base in Alaska. Players take role of Snake, the special forces soldier known from previous titles, whose objective is to infiltrate the base, save the hostages and stop the terrorists, who threaten to launch nuclear missile. Unlike its predecessors, Metal Gear Solid has been created in full 3D, though the game premises remained unchanged. Gameplay focuses on stealth elements: acting in secrecy and avoiding guards, cameras, and direct confrontation. Nonetheless, the game doesn't lack action sequence, where the protagonists makes use of a vast arsenal of weapons and useful gadgets.

A spin-off installment to the Warner Bros.í Batman: Arkham series, initially developed for handheld consoles. The story follows the plot of Batman: Arkham Origins, giving us the opportunity to experience more of Batmanís adventures from before when he became the Dark Knight. The action is set in the eponymous Blackgate prison, where Batman has to quell an inmate riot. Arkham Origins Blackgate is a classical beat Ďem up fighting game. We observe the events from a side view and have a limited ability to move in third dimension. The gameplay focuses on exploration, fighting regular opponents and bosses, as well as interactions with characters and environment. As usual, Batman has a wide variety of characteristic gadgets at his disposal. The game also offers detective and predator modes, known from the previous installments in the series.
