Save me Mr. Tako: Tasukete Tako-San is an original platform game developed by the independent developer Christophe Galati. The title published by Nicalis is a tribute to the classics of the genre known to the owners of the first Game Boy and Game Boy Color.

Story

Save me Mr. Tako: Tasukete Tako-San takes players into a fantasy world ruled by the neverending struggle between people and intelligent octopuses - the main character, Mr. Tako, represents the latter side of the conflict. One stormy night, the protagonist saved a drowning woman, which was witnessed by a fairy - she decided to reward him with unique abilities enabling him to survive on the surface. The hero decided to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about humans, which might enable him to put an end to the conflict between the two races once and for all.

Mechanics

In Save me Mr. Tako: Tasukete Tako-San the action we observe from the side. The gameplay formula does not differ from the premise developed for the classic side-scrolling platformers - Mr. Tako travels through various levels located on six different worlds, avoids numerous dangers, conducts conversations with encountered characters (and sometimes takes on missions for them), solves puzzls and fights various opponents.

The enemies sprayed with ink are transformed into platforms that the hero can jump on to get to higher places. It is worth remembering, that while defeating a common adversary is not a major problem for the protagonist, sending one of the nineteen bosses to the other side is a slightly more complicated task, requiring, above all, the development of efficient tactics. In this case, it is helpful to equip the protagonist with one of the fifty hats that provide him with additional skills - for example, the archer's hat enables him to send arrows towards his enemies.

Game modes

The basic gameplay variant of Save me Mr. Tako: Tasukete Tako-San is the story mode. In addition, the Runner mode (enabling us to go through individual stages on time) and a special mode consisting only of duels with successive bosses are waiting to be checked.

Technical aspects

As mentioned earlier, Save me Mr. Tako: Tasukete Tako-San draws a handful from platformers released for Game Boy and Game Boy Color. For this reason, the two-dimensional visuals of the game are characterized by simplicity and modest color palette (Game Boy Color's LCD screen enabled the device to display up to four colors at the same time) - its characteristic feature are also sprites of sizes corresponding to those used on cult handhelds of Nintendo. The same applies to the soundtrack, which complements the retro style.
