Battlezone

Action 13 October 2016

A remake of the classic shooter that debuted in 1980 in the arcades. The new version was developed by Rebellion for virtual reality sets. Similarly as its predecessor, the new Battlezone has rather modest story which tells about an invasion of aliens on planet Earth. The player takes control of a modern battle tank and they are tasked with elimination of enemy vehicles, planes and unidentified flying objects. The action is shown from a first-person perspective and during the game the player travels through futuristic locations filled with neon elements that are typical of science-fiction movies of the 80s (like, for example, TRON). The gameplay combines dynamical action with the necessity to carefully plan one's actions.

Battlezone 98 Redux
Battlezone 98 Redux

Action 18 April 2016

A remastered version of 1998's Battlezone, combining elements of action and RTS games. Developer Rebellion focused on enhancing visual resolution and upgrading the interface, while keeping gameplay almost identical to the original edition. Therefore, Battlezone 98 offers the same original single player campaigns presenting an alternative version of the Cold War. You are in control of either the USA or USSR forces during an open conflict taking place on the planets of the Solar System. This is a war over a mysterious alien resource called bio-metal. You observe the action from the cockpit of a futuristic tank and from there you fight the enemy and command your units. Other elements typical for RTS games that Battlzone 98 Redux features are collecting resources, developing your base, and producing units. In addition to the two campaigns, Batlezone 98 Redux offers three multiplayer modes: Strategy, Deathmatch, and Sniper.

Battlezone (1983)

Action 10 April 1983

A science-fiction first-person shooter, considered to be one of the first games in the genre. In Battlezone, we sit in the cockpit of a futuristic tank and our task is to eliminate all hostile units that appear on the horizon before they do the same to us. The player can drive back and forth as well as rotate the turret to the left and right. We are informed of the presence of enemy tanks by a radar located in the upper part of the screen. The PC version of the game is a conversion of the hit created for arcade machines and is characterized by virtually unchanged vector graphics. Compared to the original, though, it offers the option for two players to play (by taking turns) as well as several difficulty levels.
