Strategy 16 March 2010

The fourth major installment of the legendary strategy game series which dates back to 1995. It was created by the Los Angeles division of EA that has been developing the series for a few years now. The game continues the storyline of its predecessors and focuses on the desperate struggle between GDI and Nod to stop the spread of Tiberium which threatens the planet with absolute sterilization. There are two separate campaigns at the player’s disposal, both combining typical solutions of the series with a number of innovations introduced to the gameplay mechanics. The game lacks raw material mining and features division into classes. Instead of stationary bases, we make use of mobile ones in the form of giant walking machines, the so-called crawlers. Similarly to Red Alert 3, the campaign can be played either solo or in cooperation, while multiplayer allows up to 10 players to play together.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 - Commander's Challenge

Strategy 16 September 2009

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 - Commander's Challenge is a spin-off to the popular strategy game series C&C: Red Alert, developed for console players exclusively. Created by Electronic Arts, the game is actually a slightly cut version of the Uprising expansion, available to the owners of PCs some couple of months earlier. There is no regular story campaign in this game, instead, the main focus is the eponymous Challenge Mode. After choosing one of the three factions, the players take part in over 50 diverse challenges of varying difficulty level. The mechanics are generally based on tried solutions, but have been a bit simplified and adjusted to the capabilities of the consoles. In subsequent missions the players develop their base, gather resources, and fight in battles, but the array of additional activities is pretty big, and requires the player to employ different strategies. Along with the progress in the game, players unlock access to new challenges, units and technology.

Strategy 28 October 2008

After the success achieved by the third installment in the Command & Conquer series, EA Los Angeles began to work on a sequel to the Red Alert subseries developed in parallel with the franchise's main installments. Again, the players are thrown into an alternative reality, where the leaders of the Soviet Union decided to travel back in time in order to make Russia great again. However, apart from the Allied Forces, standing in their way this time is a new superpower established in the eastern part of the globe - the Empire of the Rising Sun. Each of the three entities involved in the conflict received its own story campaign consisting of 9 missions. Importantly, the campaigns can be played both in the singleplayer and co-op modes. Depending on the faction chosen, the player takes control of different, but also unusual, combat units falling into three categories: ground, air and naval ones. Among them, the player will find floating islands, transformable tanks or armed animals, such as dolphins or bears for example. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 once again utilizes the SAGE engine, providing the players with high-quality visuals.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars

Strategy 28 March 2007

The third full-fledged installment in a series of bestselling strategy games. The series was launched by Westwood and further developed by EA Los Angeles - a team employing the creators of the original game. This third installment reaches back to the roots of the franchise, both in terms of the mechanics and the plot. The game focuses on further developments in the conflict between the Global Defense Initiative and terrorists known as the Brotherhood of Nod. Their ruthless leader by the name of Kane tries to conquer the world using the titular Tiberium - a substance of space origin. The gameplay here is based on a well-proven formula and focuses on resource gathering, base expansion and commanding the player's forces through dynamic, real-time battles. The game offers units that appeared first in the previous installments, such as Mammoth tanks or Orca aircraft. Simultaneously, the visuals were significantly improved, using an upgraded version of the SaGE engine.

Command & Conquer: Generals
Command & Conquer: Generals

Strategy 11 February 2003

Another installment in a series of popular RTS games, which was initiated by Westwood Studios in 1995. Once Electronic Arts took over, EA Pacific was entrusted with the task of creating the game; creators of the original Command & Conquer were included in the team as well. C&C: Generals is not connected to any of the franchise's previous iterations in terms of the story. The game is set in a close future, when in the face of a huge war, the combined forces of the US and China stood up to a terrorist organization known as Global Liberation Army. The creators included three campaigns, one for each of the powers involved. Each campaign consists of 10 missions linked together by a storyline. Commanding the forces of each of the superpowers requires a slightly different approach, because the player leads here both modern-day combat units (USA) and infantry with unique technical support (China), apart from a gathering of dangerous fanatics and mercenaries (GLA). Command & Conquer: Generals utilizes the 3D SaGe engine, which is at the source of the game's high-quality visuals.

Action 26 February 2002

Side-scroller of the extremely popular strategy series started in 1995 by Westwood Studios. The story of the game uses a well-known motif from the full-fledged parts of the series - a conflict between the forces of GDI and NOD. This time, however, we don't have to do with a classic RTS strategy, but with a first-person action game, in which we play as captain Nick "Havoc" Parker, performing a number of dangerous missions against the NOD Brotherhood.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2

Strategy 24 October 2000

The official sequel to Command & Conquer: Red Alert, a game originally released on PCs in 1996 by the Westwood Studios company. The storyline of Red Alert 2 is a continuation of that of its predecessor, however, due to the results of the secret Soviet experiments, this time we will witness the emergence of several alternative reality scenarios. The players can once again declare themselves either for the side of the Allies or the advancing red tide of the Soviets, and it is their task to try to decide the fate of the world with the numerous new tools at their disposal. Said novelties include unique, futuristic military technologies, as well as the ability to deploy spies, who can reach even the most carefully guarded secrets of any enemy base. In total, the production features forty new single-player missions and thirty previously unavailable units and buildings. The visuals of C&C: Red Alert 2 have also been significantly upgraded to harness the full potential of newest computers and modern graphics cards.

Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun

Strategy 24 August 1999

The third entry in the ground-breaking real-time strategy game series, this time calling back to the very first game from 1995. The game itself, however, takes us to the beginning of 21st century and once again puts us in charge of the weakened Nod Brotherhood or GDI alliance that tries to maintain the world peace under the command of General Salomon. Despite what we could have thought, the charismatic leader of Nod did not die under the ruins of his temple and is quick to begin a new conflict, which can change the world forever. Gameplay of Tiberian Sun doesn’t differ much from the original, though the creators from Westood studio made sure to implement some changes and novelties. Each faction has new buildings and units that force us to develop new tactics. There also additions like new, three-dimensional game engine, improved cutscenes with well-known actors (including James Earl Jones and Michael Biehn) and enhanced multiplayer for up to 8 players.

An interesting side view of the real-time strategy series. Unlike the previous parts of Command & Conquer, in this game each player controls one unit and fights other participants in online battles. Command & Conquer: Red Alert
Command & Conquer: Red Alert

Strategy 09 November 1996

The continuation of the enthusiastically-received RTS title from the Westwood Studios company. In contrast to the purely fictional storyline of its predecessor, this time the developers have decided to provide the players with an alternative version of reality, in which Stalin decides to “liberate” the world from the hands of imperialists and subjugate it to Soviet authority. After we declare our allegiance we can either assault the West under the red banner or fight in the ranks of the Allies and try to withstand the Soviet onslaught. This decision will have huge impact on our gameplay experience, as both factions have completely unique types of units and armaments, which also results in slightly different playstyles and strategies. The arsenal of doomsday devices which we have at our disposal has also been made much more realistic in comparison to the production’s archetype; however, there is no shortage of various weapon prototypes, such as the Tesla coil which electrocutes nearby enemies. Each of the campaigns consists of fourteen diversified missions, while those looking for an even greater challenge can try their strength in the multiplayer mode.

Strategy 15 October 1995

Command & Conquer (1995) is a legendary RTS, developed by an experienced American studio, Westwood – the people behind such classics as Eye of the Beholder, The Legend of Kyrandia or the worshiped Dune II. The action of this game takes place in the near future, where two factions – a terrorist organization, Brotherhood of Nod, and Global Defense Initiative – are fighting for influence. The stakes are high – global peace, and control over an invaluable resource – Tiberium. Each faction has its own set of buildings and units, among which there are infantry units, APCs, heavy tanks, fighter jets, or hovercrafts. The mechanics are based on Dune II, although the tactical layer and the AI have been significantly improved. The game is complimented by cinematic cut scenes, which comprise a 40-minute FMV. And let’s not forget about the multiplayer.
