Samurai Shodown V Special is a remastered and expanded version of a beat 'em up game Samurai Shodown V. Unlike the original, released for consoles in 2006, Samurai Shodown V Special is characterized by high level of brutality, known from the arcade version. The player controls their chosen warrior, while watching the action from the side, and taking part in bloody duels. An important role is played by two factors: Sword Gauge, which stands for the power of strikes (it grows when you are in a defensive stance), and Rage Gauge, responsible for special counter-attacks (charges up when you receive damage). Among the available skills there are many spectacular moves, including the ability to slow down time, as well as exceptionally brutal Overkill Moves, which usually conclude battles. The core of gameplay in Samurai Shodown V Special lies in the story mode, which features the events from before the first game in the series. There is also the Versus Mode, which puts you up against another player. Samurai Shodown V Special features oldschool 2D graphics.
