Speedball 2100

A remake of Speedball 2, which was originally released in 1990 on several platforms available at that time. The game is a futuristic, brutal sports game that combines elements of handball and ice hockey.

Story

It's been a few years since the Speedball league closed down. Society is demanding games, so the authorities decide to return to the proven concept. That's how Speedball 2100 came to life, a tournament consisting of three leagues of two divisions each.

Mechanics

Bitmap Brothers' remake brings some changes to the original concept. This time, the devs used 3D graphics to show the competitors' models in detail and to present the brutal struggles in the arenas in an even more caricatural way. They also decided to slow down the pace of the game a bit. An element introduced in the 2100 is also the option of modifying teams and players.

The gameplay itself resembles a combination of handball and ice hockey. Nine teams are competing and the task is to push the ball into the opponent's goal. No holds are barred, so the combat is full of strikes, breaks, injuries and abundantly bleeding members of both teams. In order to increase their chances of winning, players can use power-ups found in the arena.

Game modes

Speedball 2100 offers several game modes. Loners can test their skills in the league, as well as a simple manager module where they run the chosen squad, invest in equipment for players and make transfers, trying to earn themselves a spot in the annals of history. The remake also enables two players to compete on the same screen in a series of more or less twisted competitions.

Technical aspects

Speedball 2100 is features a specific, cyberpunk style, presenting the struggle in the eponymous league in a humorous and macabre way. The title is brutal and is therefore not suitable for younger users.
