Spellspire Description
Spellspire is an action RPG created by an independent team at 10tons - creators of such titles as the warmly received Neon Chrome and Crimsonland.
Story
The story layer does not play a significant role in Spellspire. The game takes us to a fantasy world, to be precise - to the title spire, whose secrets the main character decides to explore. The protagonist then traverses its successive floors; on his way to the summit, he gradually grows in strength, confronting a host of increasingly powerful enemies.
Mechanics
What distinguishes Spellspire from the competition is the original combat mechanics based on the rules of Scrabble. The battles take place in a turn-based mode: before the start of each round, the game draws letters from which, during the duel, we arrange the words used to attack our opponents as if by means of combat spells. The rule is simple - the longer the word we manage to arrange, the more damage we deal to the enemy. However, it is complicated by the fact that we have a limited amount of time to arrange the word; moreover, each word can only be used once at a given stage, and the available letters cannot be changed in any way.
The action in Spellspire is observed from the side. The adventure was divided into stages corresponding to the successive levels of the tower. On each floor there are not only hordes of enemies waiting to be defeated in order to push the action forward (among them are, of course, powerful and sturdy dragon-like bosses), but also equipment elements that give us advantage on the battlefield. Wands, robes and hats gained in the course of the adventure provide the daredevil with special abilities (the equipment can be upgraded in exchange for gold). When the health is damaged, he or she can use healing potions, and when in tight spot, they can save themselves with disposable magic objects and scrolls with offensive spells.
Technical aspects
Spellspire is characterized by decent two-dimensional cartoonish graphics.
