In Cooking Simulator, a player assumes the role of a chef working at a restaurant, who has to carry out all the duties resulting from his job. Their responsibilities include preparation of various meals - one can stick to the recipes or experiment a bit. The latter option involves combining ingredients as one sees fit, choosing from vegetables, meat, and fish.

In Battle Chef Brigade, the player assumes the role of one of the available chefs, participating in cooking competitions, similar to those featured in numerous TV shows such as Iron Chef. The only difference is that the game is set in a fantasy world, and acquiring particular ingredients requires the player to visit diverse locations and find them on their own.
