An unusual attempt to combine one of the most cult shooters of all time with elements of turn-based RPG. In the game we play the hero of B.J. Blazkowicz's cycle, who, captured by agents of the Third Reich, has to get free and face the evil brought into the world by a secret SS unit called Paranormal Division.
Wolfenstein RPG Description
Update: The game was removed from the App Store by the publisher.
Wolfenstein RPG is a rather unusual attempt to combine one of the most famous three-dimensional shooters of all time with elements of turn-based RPG. The game was created by id Mobile studio - an internal branch of the famous id Software, created in cooperation with Fountainhead Interactive studio in order to transfer id classics to mobile devices. The title was published on smartphones supporting Java applications and mobile devices working under iOS control.
The action of the game takes place in the Wolfenstein series universe, and its protagonist is, of course, Sergeant B.J. Blazkowicz, who is well known to its fans. Conceived by Third Reich agents and placed in the basement of the famous Wolfenstein fortress, our protagonist must get free to foil the plans of the mysterious Paranormal Division unit and free the world from the evil powers it has brought in. During nine consecutive episodes of the game, Blazkowicz visits the prison, research laboratories, dungeons and the central part of Wolfenstein Castle.
As in the Wolfenstein games, the action of the game is shown in the first-person perspective, however, in this case the elements of the classic shooting have been replaced by tactical battles in the turn-based system. In addition to fighting, while moving around the successive locations, we also collect treasures, find secret rooms and read books, so that the information obtained in this way can be used in the rest of the game. In addition, Blazkowicz must also take care of the level of energy (renewing it with food and medical injections) and collect various useful ingredients, which will be used to prepare potions, improving e.g. strength, endurance or resistance to fire. As in any racial RPG, the game could not miss the character development system, whose individual parameters are systematically improved in the course of the game.
The game features a total of 32 types of opponents, including guards and zombies as well as a variety of genetically modified monsters. In addition to shoes and fists, the available arsenal of weapons includes a total of 16 means of extermination, such as rifles, flame throwers, rocket launchers and dynamite walking sticks. A peculiar variety of the game are additional mini-games, in which we deal with e.g. digging chickens or playing a game of card game gambling. Compared to the Java version, there is also an extra level on the iOS where we sit behind the wheel of the car.
As a curiosity it is worth noting that Wolfenstein RPG was not the first attempt to combine a shooter with an RPG game, undertaken by id Software studio. Still in 2005, the popular smartphones released a Java game called Doom RPG, embedded in the universe of the equally cult series of FPS shooters of the same studio.
