X-treme Express Description
X-Treme Express is an unusual racing game involving rolling stock. The player takes control of the locomotive of his choice, trying to get to the destination as quickly as possible. This production originally debuted only in Japan (as Tetsu-One Densha De Battle! World Grand Prix), and it wasn't until time that the decision was made to develop its English version. The only target platform for X-Treme Express is PlayStation 2.
The races are held on ten basic railway routes located in different parts of Japan (urban areas, rural areas, etc.). In addition, it is possible to unlock ten boards played in a fictional environment. It is worth mentioning that many different routes lead to the destination. A successful start can also contribute to victory, allowing you to get a confident lead. The game is full of exciting moments, all the more so as the possibility of making it difficult for opponents to drive or even cleverly derail their trains is foreseen.
Eighty different locomotives have been put at the player's disposal, half of which is initially hidden. Access to new machines becomes possible only in the next phase of the game. Noteworthy is the unusual appearance of many locomotives - they may resemble creations or even Japanese samurai. Each locomotive is described by several basic factors, such as acceleration, maximum speed and the ability to climb hills.
Competitions can be conducted alone or with the participation of another person. Players play on a split screen, interrupting each other in getting to the last railway station. It is also worth mentioning that the X-Treme Express contains some interesting arcade mini-games, such as stopping a damaged locomotive.
The visual setting of the game is very simplified, which can be seen in particular in the poor environment. The struggles are observed from several different shots, among others from the inside of a locomotive or a camera hanging over a rushing rolling stock.
