First-person point-and-click adventure with logical elements, which is a kind of a prelude to the RPG of Hellraid action by Techland, which is being created at the same time.
Hellraid: The Escape, released on iOS and AND, is a point-and-click adventure game with logical elements created by Shortbreak Studios in cooperation with Techland, set in Hellraid universe.
Plot
In Hellraid: The Escape, we play the role of a prisoner whose soul was imprisoned in dark catacombs by sorcerer Crell possessed by dark forces. By reading the notes, we learn the story of a magician who offers us his help in exchange for release. In order to reach him, however, we will have to go through an underground labyrinth of corridors filled with a series of traps and riddles. Along the way, we will find answers to a number of questions: who are we and how did we find ourselves in this depressing place?
Mechanics
The action in Hellraid: The Escape is shown in the first-person perspective, and we start our adventure in a coffin, to which we return with each subsequent failure. We are exploring successive chambers filled with imaginative tools of torture and moans of tormented prisoners, and in each of them we have to solve a certain number of puzzles that will allow us to leave a given room. We have to look for hidden levers and switches, assign matching elements, align mirrors at the right angle, or create alchemical mixtures from specific components. An additional challenge is the ability to find crystals hidden on each level, which act as optional "collectibles".
The game also offers arcade elements, such as crossing the chasm or aiming at distant elements. Hellraid: The Escape doesn't feature direct fights with enemies - we can, however, neutralize opponents by using elements of the environment, such as levers or traps. It is worth mentioning that if we die, all solved puzzles remain solved and the passages open meaning that we don't have to perform the same actions every time.
Technical aspects
In terms of graphics, Hellraid: The Escape represents a high level. The game uses Unreal Engine 3, thanks to which the world is full of interactive details that react in a variety of ways to the player's actions. Also noteworthy is the well-developed control model and the balanced level of difficulty of individual puzzles.
