Mayhem in Single Valley is an action adventure game with RPG elements that evokes associations with The Legend of Zelda series. The game was developed by the independent Fluxscopic studio, which previously created You Are Not a Banana, and its release was handled by tinyBuild.
Plot
Mayhem in Single Valley takes us to the Single Valley. The main character is Jack Johnson, a teenager who leaves his family to go to college in a metropolis. After leaving home, however, he finds that the area has changed beyond recognition. Someone poisoned the water in the river, which turned the animals into a bloodthirsty monsters. Without thinking too long, Jack abandons his previous plans and goes to help his city.
Mechanics
In Mayhem in Single Valley the action is shown from a bird's eye view. During the game, we will travel through Single Valley and the surroundings; among the available locations we will find both picturesque open airs and gloomy dungeons. The main element of the game are the tasks commissioned by the residents, but the way to pass many of them is bumpy.
Various enemies stand in Jack's way; our hero can deal with them in various ways, although fighting is not always the best of them. The hero can combine various components in order to manipulate the behavior of enemies with the help of the received items and allow himself to escape. In addition, a teenager can use their mutual animosities to his own advantage; for example, squirrels are afraid of bears, so we can disperse a herd of bloodthirsty rodents, directing the bear towards them.
Jack also has to solve simple environmental puzzles, usually involving moving objects around locations. There are also arcade sections, requiring jumping on platforms, using an umbrella as a hang glider (and gliding on gusts of wind) or even crossing a rapid river. In addition, from time to time the teenager sits behind the wheel of a vehicle (like a golf cart).
The authors also decided to implement two unusual solutions. The protagonist carries a small tape recorder, so we can choose the music. In addition, his equipment fits in the backpack; if we want to get rid of the load (for example, before jumping into the water), we must remember that with him we lose all the equipment collected.
Technical aspects
Mayhem in a Single Valley has colourful graphics made in pixel art technique. While we play, we listen to a dynamic chiptune soundtrack.
