Gameplay in Toy Soldiers: War Chest is based on the series' token mechanics. You control an army of toy soldiers who have to defend their base from enemy attacks. To that end you must deploy various cannons and guns, which can later be upgraded to increase their fire power. At any moment you can take control of an individual unit, switching the perspective to TPP.

The gameplay mechanics are mostly based on the first game in the series and are focused on competition between the players. Each player has a castle that they must protect. The castles are connected by a long, winding path. In each round one side of the conflict controls a giant ball and tries to use it to break through the gate of the enemy fortress.
