Elite: Dangerous dev's new game will be based on a Hollywood movie

Frontier Developments, the studio behind Elite: Dangerous and Planet Coaster, are teasing their next game. This one is going to be based on an unnamed Hollywood franchise.

England-based studio Frontier Developments – the creators of space sim Elite: Dangerous and economic strategy Planet Coaster – have revealed that their third self-published game franchise is going to be based on an “enduring movie franchise of global renown” from an unnamed Hollywood studio. No exact information has been shared so far, but more details are to come later in 2017, as informs the London Stock Exchange website. Here is what Frontier Developments’ CEO David Braben said about the deal:

“The third franchise is an important next step in our growth. We have chosen to license this particular IP to work with as our third franchise, because we believe we can create something very special. It is creatively stimulating, already has a high worldwide profile, and is a perfect match for our expertise.”

Frontier Developments is a video game dev company founded by David Braben, a veteran of the industry, most famous for co-creating the Elite franchise back in the 1980s. Its latest installment, Elite: Dangerous, released in December 2014 after it had been successfully funded on Kickstarter in early 2013 and is now coming to PlayStation 4 in Q2 2017. Last year they also published Planet Coaster, which is a spiritual successor to the cult RollerCoaster Tycoon series that once developed for Atari.
