Western Digital Revealed a PS5-compatible SSD

Western Digital has unveiled the SN850 SSD, the first model in its catalogue to be compatible with PlayStation 5.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Western Digital introduced the SN850 drive, compatible with the PlayStation 5;
  2. The device is available in three variants: 512GB (€152.99), 1TB (€274.99) and 2TB (€549.99).

Western Digital has launched its first PlayStation 5-compatible SSD, the SN850 (via PSU). The device uses the NVMe interface and has a read and write speed of 7000 and 5300 MB/sec rescpectively. Thus, it meets Sony's requirements (the drives supported by PS5 must have performance comparable to that found in the console, and this one is able to process about 5500 MB/s of uncompressed data).

SN850 belongs to the WD Black line, which is dedicated to gamers. In addition to the PS5, the hardware will also work with PCs and Xbox consoles (most likely of current generation, as Xbox Series X and Series S use dedicated SSD media). The devices can already be ordered from the Western Digital store (according to the information contained therein the shipping time is "2-3 weeks"). There are several variants available, differing in price and capacity: 512 GB (152.99 euro), 1 TB (274.99 euro) and 2 TB (549.99 euro). The first quarter of 2021 will also see a model equipped with a heat sink with RGB lighting.

We would like to remind you that the PlayStation 5 console will debut on November 12, this year. The device is to have an 825 GB SSD, although according to recent rumors, players will only be able to use 664 GB (the rest will be reserved for the operating system).
