Several days ago, at the end of May, a remaster of a well-received game was released. Etrian Odyssey HD, an enhanced version of the title from 2007 found its way to Nintendo Switch and PC. It is a jRPG dungeon crawler with turn-based combat. An interesting addition to Etrian Odyssey is the mechanic to sketch your own map of a labyrinth in which the game takes place. The journey begins with choosing your adventurer’s class. Let’s explore which of them is the best.

Classes tier list in Etrian Odyssey HD

The game features nine classes, two of which are hidden. Each of them has its unique skill tree and distinctive playstyle. Below you can find the subjective list with short description of each class, ranking the classes from strongest to weakest:

S-Tier

  1. Medic – basic healing class to keep your party alive… though if you fail at the task, it allows you to revive teammates. Due to medic’s immunize skill, the adventurers can take on basically anyone.

A-Tier

  1. Survivalist – an archer and support class mix. Survivalist has high damage output and access to all gathering skills thus making collecting resources a lot easier.
  2. Landsknecht – balanced warrior specialised in swords and axes. Simple melee damage dealing class.
  3. Troubadour – buffer class that does not provide any damage output for the team. Even though troubadour does not have any attacks, the class can strengthen the party with powerful enchants.
  4. Protectorparty’s main tank. Typical shield and sword wielder. Utilises defensive skills to reduce or negate damage for the whole team.

B-Tier

  1. Alchemist – spellcaster and elemental magic user. Alchemist’s skills can be beneficial, as certain enemies have weaknesses to specific elements. By properly reading those weak points, this class can deal massive damage.
  2. Dark Hunter – party member that can provide debuffs that weaken enemies. This class uses swords and whips, which can bind enemies preventing them from using some attacks. It can lead to great openings for your team to strike.

C-Tier

  1. Ronin – one of the hidden classes. Wielding katanas, this party member is a glass-cannon with high damage output but low defense stats. This teammate is slow as their attacks require assuming a stance yet deal high damage.
  2. Hexer – another hidden class. Status inflicting party member with Revenge attack skill dealing damage based on their HP level – the lower the HP, the higher the damage dealt. This teammate is hard to utilise especially during boss battles, as those have very high resistance to any status infliction.

Remember that even though some characters may seem weaker than others, that doesn’t mean they are completely useless. Sometimes less powerful team comps can be way more entertaining than min-maxed party tearing through foes.
