Hellsing is a manga that has already received two anime adaptations. Now, they will be joined by a full-length live-action film. Derek Kolstad, the screenwriter of John Wick, will be in charge of the production. Apart from the film series with Keanu Reeves, he also worked on the upcoming series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Hellsing is a completely different project for him, because, as he recalls, he's been dreaming about making it for a long time.
"Ever since my brother introduced me to the Hellsing manga and anime some years ago, I’ve been obsessed with adapting it. And when Mike Callaghan and his team managed to secure the rights to then partner us up with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Amazon, I mean -damn, dude- this is a dream."
Hellsing is a manga whose story follows the fate of Alucard, a powerful vampire who has lived for hundreds of years. He works for the Hellsing organization, which, under the leadership of Integra (a descendant of Van Hellsing), protects Britain from the undead bloodsuckers. Alucard's life begins to change when he saves the life of police officer Victoria Seras, turning her into a vampire. At the same time, the Catholic Church becomes an increasing threat to the heroes.
Hellsing has already had two anime adaptations. The first version from 2001 was aired even before the original was finished. Five years later, an OVA series with the same title, which faithfully reflected the story presented in the manga, premiered. Now an American live-action film will also join this group. Amazon Studios will produce and distribute the new Hellsing adaptation.
